Market Happenings for Wednesday, September 05, 2012

Premarket futures are down. Gainers this morning include DFS (+2.4%), DIS, BIG, MU and AMAT while losers include CLF (-3.06%), FDX, ANR, UPS and BTU. Walt Disney (DIS) a Dow component is up +1.05% premarket.

The Market

Investors are watching all the economic numbers ahead of the Federal Reserve’s Sept. 12-13 policy meeting, as they may influence the central bank’s decision on whether it will deliver more quantitative easing.

European stocks were mixed in afternoon trading and Asian stocks closed lower.

The national average price of gasoline is unchanged this morning at $3.824 per gallon.

Oh, and if you didn’t know, Facebook shares (FB) hit another new low again yesterday.

0700 ET Weekly MBA mortgage applications, previous -4.3% with purchase sub-index +1.4% and refi sub-index -5.7%.

0745 ET ICSC (Int’l Council of Shopping Centers) weekly retailer sales.

0830 ET Revised Q2 nonfarm productivity expected +1.8 vs last 1.6%. Revised Q2 unit labor costs expected +1.4% vs last +1.7%.

0855 ET Redbook weekly retailer sales.

0945 ET Aug ISM New York, July +5.5 to 55.2.

1630 ET API weekly U.S. oil statistics.
