Intel Reports Earnings: DJIA Market Close for Tuesday, July 17, 2012

The Dow closed up +78.33 (+0.62%) at 12,805.54.

Intel (INTC) reported earnings after the close of $0.54 per share, in-line with estimates and matching the year ago quarter. It’s down about what it gained today (-1%) in after-hours trade.

This morning Coca Cola and Johnson & Johnson reported earnings. JNJ reported $1.30 ($0.50 net) versus estimates of $1.29 per share. Revenue fell 0.7 percent to $16.48 billion. KO reported earnings of $1.22 versus estimates of $1.19 per share and revenue was up 3 percent to $13.09 billion.

The Dow had only 4 stocks down today which included HD (-1.42%), IBM, AA and JPM.

Dow winners were led by DIS (+3.11%), PPFE, MRK, DD, KO, BAC and TRV.

Today, Bernanke told a Senate panel that risks to economic growth have heightened and that the Fed is “looking for ways to address the weakness in the economy should more action be needed.”

MRK, PFE and VZ all made new 52 week highs today.

AXP reports earnings on 7/18/12 after the close.
BAC reports earnings on 7/18/12 before the market open.
IBM reports earnings on 7/18/12 after the close.

The dollar was down against the euro and British pound, but gained versus the Japanese yen.

Oil for August delivery was up 79 cents to $89.22 a barrel.

Gold futures for August delivery slipped $2.10 to $1,589.50 an ounce.

The price on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury fell, pushing the yield up to 1.50% from 1.46% late Monday.
