The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +109 points.

Tuesday the Dow was down -107.39 (-0.31%) at 34,888.79.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +13.99%.

The Dow stock winners Tuesday were led by Visa (V) 242.35 (+1.88%), Microsoft (MSFT) 280.98 (+1.32%) and Coca Cola (KO) 55.02 (+0.99%).

The Dow stock losers Tuesday were led by Boeing (BA) 228.20 (-4.23%), Caterpillar (CAT) 215.19 (-1.55%) and JPMorgan (JPM) 155.65 (-1.49%).

US futures are higher, European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

JPMorgan (JPM) fell nearly 1% in Tuesday’s premarket, after the bank reported second-quarter profit and revenue that exceeded expectations as the firm released money set aside for loan losses.

A day after higher-than-expected June consumer prices, the producer price index for last month soared 7.3% year over year and the core rate excluding food and fuel jumped 5.6%. The 10-year Treasury yield is about 1.38%.

President Joe Biden is set to meet with Senate Democrats on Capitol Hill on Wednesday to talk about their budget agreement. The accord announced Tuesday night envisions spending $3.5 trillion over the coming decade, paving the way for their drive to pour federal resources into climate-change initiatives, as well as health care and family service programs sought by Biden. It’s not clear whether Democrats have all members on board in the spilt Senate. Moderates like Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona might still demand further changes.

The national average price of gasoline is up one-tenth of a cent at $3.147 per gallon.
