The Dow Market Happenings For Tuesday, January 5, 2020

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -32 points.

Monday the Dow was down -382.59 (-1.25%) at 30,223.89.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -1.25%.

There were 6 Dow stocks up Monday.

The Dow stock winners Monday were led by Walgreens (WBA) 41.40 (+3.81%), Walmart (WMT) 146.53 (+1.65%) and Goldman Sachs (GS) 265.00 (+0.49%).

The Dow stock losers Monday were led by Boeing (BA) 202.72 (-5.30%), Coca Cola (KO) 52.76 (-3.79%) and Travelers (TRV) 135.65 (-3.36%).

The outcome of Georgia’s two runoff elections Tuesday will determine whether Republicans retain control of the Senate. To capture the majority for their party, both Democratic challengers, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, must beat GOP Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler. Such a result would be a 50-50 split in the Senate with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as the tie-breaking vote for Democrats.

European stocks are mostly lower and Asian markets ended mostly higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up five-tenths of a cent at $2.261 per gallon.
