DJIA Market Happenings For Thursday, November 7, 2019

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open up +155 points.

Wednesday the Dow was down -0.07 (-0.00%) at 27,492.56. So basically unchanged for the day.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +17.85%.

There were 20 Dow stocks up Wednesday.

The Dow stock winners Wednesday were led by Procter & Gamble (PG) +1.19%, Cisco (CSCO) +1.07% and Verizon (VZ) +1.06%.

The Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Walgreens (WBA) -2.81%, Exxon Mobil (XOM) -2.19% and Chevron (CVX) -1.67%.

It could be another record-breaking day in the US stock market, after a Chinese official said that Washington and Beijing have discussed rolling back tariffs. A spokesman for China’s Ministry of Commerce told reporters these roll-backs could happen even before a “phase one” trade deal is signed. The United States and China agreed to a preliminary deal in mid-October.

Unemployment insurance weekly claims in the week ending November 2, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 211,000, a decrease of 8,000 from the previous week’s revised level. The previous week’s level was revised up by 1,000 from 218,000 to 219,000. The 4-week moving average was 215,250, an increase of 250 from the previous week’s revised average. The previous week’s average was revised up by 250 from 214,750 to 215,000.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2 percent for the week ending October 26, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending October 26 was 1,689,000, a decrease of 3,000 from the previous week’s revised level. The previous week’s level was revised up 2,000 from 1,690,000 to 1,692,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,686,750, unchanged from the previous week’s revised average. The previous week’s average was revised up by 500 from 1,686,250 to 1,686,750.

European stocks are higher and Asian markets ended higher.

The national average price of gasoline is up five-tenths of a cent at $2.628 per gallon.
