DJIA Market Happenings For Friday, October 5, 2018

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -67 points.

Thursday the Dow was down -200.91 (-0.75%) at 26,627.48.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +7.72%.

The Dow stock winners Thursday were led by Verizon (VZ) +1.34% and Travelers (TRV) +0.96%.

The Dow stock losers Thursday were led by Nike (NKE) -2.81% and Home Depot (HD) -2.40%.

The September Jobs Report said 134,000 jobs were added last month. Wall Street economists had expected an increase of about 168,000. The unemployment rate was 3.7 percent, the lowest since 1969. Average earnings rose by 8 cents an hour and are up 2.8 percent over the past year. Hiring figures for July and August were revised up by a combined 87,000 jobs.

European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is up three-tenths of a cent at $2.914 per gallon.
