The Dow Market Happenings For Thursday, March 9, 2017

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to down -6 points.

Wednesday the Dow was down -69.03 (-0.33%) at 20,855.73.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +5.53%.

There were 8 Dow stocks up Wednesday.

The Dow stock winners Wednesday were led by Microsoft (MSFT) +0.92% and Wal-Mart (WMT) +0.63%.

The Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Caterpillar (CAT) -2.81% and Chevron (CVX) -1.97%.

Jobless claims rose by 20,000 to 243,000 in the week ended March 4. The previous week filings fell by 19,000 to 223,000. The median forecast called for 238,000 claims last week. The four-week moving average increased to 236,500 last week from 234,250.

European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down two-tenths of a cent at $2.304 per gallon.
