The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open ip +50 points.

Wednesday the Dow was up +30.06 (+0.17%) at 18,199.33.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +4.27%.

There were 16 Dow stocks up Wednesday.

The Dow stock winners Wednesday were led by Boeing (BA) +4.69% and Nike (NKE) +1.80%.

The Dow stock losers Wednesday were led by Apple (AAPL) -2.25% and Merck (MRK) -1.74%.

Unemployment benefits fell 3,000 to 258,000, not far from the 43-year low reached last month. Applications have been below 300,000 for 86 straight weeks, the longest such streak since 1970. About 2.04 million people are receiving unemployment aid, the fewest since June, 2000.

European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down three-tenths of a cent at $2.225 per gallon.
