The Dow Market Happenings For Monday, December 1, 2014

Dow stocks at 52 week highs includes Home Depot (HD), Coca Cola (KO), Travelers (TRV), UnitedHealth (UNH), Nike (NKE), Procter & Gamble (PG), Disney (DIS), Wal-Mart (WMT), Cisco (CSCO), Intel (INTC) and Visa (V). I think this is the largest list of new 52 week highs this year. The eleven stock average gain is +17.87%. Of course, there are no Dow stock 52 week lows.

The Market

Premarket today, the Dow was indicated to open down -62 points.

Friday, the Dow closed up +0.49 (+0.00%) at 17,828.24.

Year-to-date the Dow is up +7.55%. Nasdaq is up +14.7%, S&P 500 +11.9% and Russell 2000 +0.8%.

Lastweek the Dow was up +0.1%, Nasdaq +1.7%, S&P 500 +0.2% and Russell 2000 +0.1%.

There were 22 Dow stock winners Friday.

Dow stock winners Friday included Wal-Mart (WMT) +3.01% and Procter & Gamble (PG) +1.74%.

Dow stock losers Friday included Chevron (CVX) -5.42%, Caterpillar (CAT) -4.91% and Exxon Mobil (XOM) -4.17%.

Retail sales during the shopping weekend following Thanksgiving fell by 11 percent according to the National Retail Federation. Shoppers average spend was lower, down to $380.95 from $407.02 in 2013.

Exxon Mobile (XOM) and Schlumberger (SLM) both fell 1.3% in premarket trading after the price of crude oil slid to a 4-1/3 year low.

Oil prices plunged to their lowest level in five years Monday with crude oil collapsing below $65 per barrel.

Past Dow stock Alcoa (AA) was upgraded to ‘Buy’ from ‘Neutral’ at Citigroup.

European stocks are lower and Asian markets ended mostly lower.

The national average price of gasoline is down 2.3 cents over the weekend at $2.769 per gallon.

Thor Industries, Inc. (THO) is expected to report first quarter EPS of $0.81 on revenue of $903.87 million, compared to last year’s EPS of $0.68 on revenue of $799.96 million.
