The Market

Premarket, the Dow was indicated to open down -15 points.

Wednesday, the Dow closed up +18.75 (+0.12%) at 16,198.41.

Year-to-date the Dow is down -2.28%.

Fed Chairman Yellen will testify before the Senate Banking Committee at 10 a.m. ET and her comments could have a significant impact on market sentiment.

The Labor Department reported that the number of people applying for U.S. unemployment benefits rose 14,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 348,000, though the broader trend in applications remained stable. The four-week average was unchanged at 338,250. Nearly 3.5 million people received unemployment aid in the week ending Feb. 8. That’s about 25,000 fewer than the previous week.

European stocks are lower and Asian stocks ended mixed.

The national average price of gasoline is up four-tenths of a cent to $3.436 per gallon.
