DJIA Market Close For Wednesday, December 19, 2012

The Dow closed down -98.99 (-0.74%) at 13,251.97.

There were three Dow stocks up and included UTX (+0.97%), INTC (+0.67%) and CAT (+0.02%).

The 27 losers were led by GE (-3.14%), AA (-3.03%), HD (-1.95%), AXP (-1.78%), BAC (-1.50%) and WMT (-1.41%).

Ratings agency Fitch reiterated it may strip the U.S. of its AAA credit rating if Washington is unable to strike a deal soon to avert the fiscal cliff and allow borrowing to rise. The pace of selling picked up as the day wore on with the Dow, Nasdaq and S&P 500 all closing lower. The Russell 2000 however, managed to hang on to a +0.02% gain. Basically unchanged.

Smith & Wesson (SWHC) and Sturm Ruger (RGR) both regained more than 7% each.
