Dow losers include AA, HPQ, CAT, BAC, UTX and AXP.

The dollar was up against the euro and British pound, but fell versus the Japanese yen.

Oil for October delivery fell 11 cents to end at $92.87 a barrel.

Gold futures for December delivery slipped $1.50 to end at $1,770.20 an ounce.

The price on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury was up, pushing the yield down to 1.77% from 1.78% late Wednesday.
