The Federal Reserve will release minutes from its July meeting on Tuesday. Investors will look for clues about whether quantitative easing could be coming when chairman Ben Bernanke speaks at a Jackson Hole, Wyo., symposium at the end of the month.
In Europe, Greek prime minister Antonis Samaras meets with top eurozone officials throughout the week. Samaras is expected to ask for a two-year extension of the Greece bailout program which would give the government more time to implement difficult reforms.
European stocks are mixed in midday trading and Asian markets endd mixed.
Apple (AAPL) shares hit another all-time high Friday on growing expectations for an upcoming wave of new gadgets. Shares are up slightly in premarket trading. Personally, I think Apple should be added to the Dow this year.
Last week DJIA ended up +0.5%, Nasdaq +1.8%, S&P 500 +0.9% and Russell 2000 +2.3%.
Year-to-date DJIA is up +8.7%, Nasdaq +18.1%, S&P 500 +12.8% and Russell 2000 +10.7%.
