The Dow closed down -38.52 (-0.29%) at 13,169.43.
New Dow 52 week high list includes MMM, and that’s all. 3M is today’s Dow leader. Actually, it had the fourth highest gain today with a mere +0.12% move higher. Dow gainers today were AXP (+0.50%), DIS, KFT, MMM and JPM.
Dow losers, 25 of them, were led by AA (-1.67%), CSCO, PFE, DD, VZ and UTX.
Investors are still concerned about the debt problems in Europe.
The Greek economy, which has been in recession for years, shrank 6.2% in the second quarter, according to preliminary government estimates released today.
Japan’s Cabinet Office released numbers today that show Japan’s gross domestic product grew just 0.3% in the second quarter, less than expected.
The dollar was down against the euro and British pound, but gained versus the Japanese yen.
Oil for September delivery slipped 14 cents to settle at $92.73 a barrel.
Gold futures for December delivery fell $10.20 to end at $1,612.60 an ounce.
The price on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury held steady with the yield at 1.64%, same as late Friday.
