The Dow Cools

The Dow cooled today to the tune of -124.20 points (-0.96%) to end the day at 12,772.47. The other indices all cooled too.

For the week, DJIA was down -0.8%, Nasdaq up +0.1%, S&P 500 down -0.5% and Russell 2000 up +1.1%. Kind of mixed, wouldn’t you say?

Year-to-date, DJIA is up +4.5%, Nasdaq +12.8%, S&P 500 +7.7% and Russell 2000 +8.9%.

There were 5 Dow stocks higher today, led by MCD (up a whopping +0.4%), WMT, T, HD and VZ.

Losers, 25 of them, were led by HPQ (-3.5%), CAT, AA, BAC, IBM, UTX and MSFT.

The dollar was flat against the euro and Japanese yen, but slipped against the British pound.

Oil for August delivery dropped $2.77 to $84.45 a barrel.

Gold futures for August delivery fell $30.50 to $1,578.90 an ounce.

The price on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury rose, pushing the yield down to 1.56% from 1.60% late Thursday.

Next week brings the start of earnings season with Alcoa (AA) reporting after the close Monday.

Wal-Mart (WMT) managed another 52 week high today too.
