The Dow closed up +67.21 (+0.53%) at 12,640.78. The S&P 500, Nasdaq and Russell 2000 all closed up as well.
For the week, DJIA was down -1.0%, Nasdaq +0.7%, S&P 500 -0.6% and Russell 2000 +0.5%.
Year-to-date, DJIA is up +3.5%, Nasdaq +11.0%, S&P 500 +6.2% and Russell 2000 +4.6%.
Personally, for the year I’m up around 5%, as I started selling a long while back during the years highs with PSVIX. I’m still looking for the right time to get long again with PSVIX and ODVYX. Like I’ve said before, my target is always 20% per year and most years you can’t get that with mutual funds using the buy and hold method of investing. You have to move in and out with the trend changes.
On a positive note, tonight when I got gas at Costco, I only paid $3.55 per gallon which was a very welcome sight after paying $4 to $4.25 a gallon for so long.
The dollar dropped versus the euro and British pound, but edged higher against the Japanese yen.
Oil for August delivery was up $1.56 cents to end at $79.76 a barrel.
Gold futures for August delivery added $1.40 to end at $1,566.90 an ounce.
With bonds, the price on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury fell slightly, pushing the yield up to 1.67% from 1.62% late Thursday.
Today, Merck & Company (MRK) hit a 52 week high.
