The Dow closed up +46.17 (+0.37%) at 12,460.96. The other three indices I cover all closed down.
There were 16 Dow stocks higher, 1 unchanged (JNJ) and 13 stocks lower.
Bernanke spoke on the hill today, saying a lot, but not really telling anything. Basically Ben Bernanke told Congress that the central bank stands ready to act, but gave no indication that additional easing is imminent.
Today was a day for doing anything not associated with stocks. It was boring.
The dollar was up against the yen, but slipped against the euro and British pound.
Oil for July delivery was down 20 cents to end at $84.82 a barrel.
Gold futures for August delivery lost $46.20 to settle at $1,588 an ounce.
The benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury gave up earlier gains after the China announcement, leaving the price little changed and the yield at the 1.65% level reached late Wednesday.
