The Dow closed up +23.69 (+0.16%) at 13,228.31.
For the week, DJIA is up +1.5%, Nasdaq +2.3%, S&P 500 +1.8% and Russell 2000 +2.7%.
Year-to-date, DJIA is up +8.3%, Nasdaq +17.8%, S&P 500 +11.6% and Russell 2000 +11.4%.
There were 11 Dow stock losers today with PG, TRV, AA and JPM leading the way lower.
That means there were 19 Dow stock gainers, led by CSCO, MCD, KO, KFT, AXP and AXP.
The Small Dogs list had nothing but winners today with KFT, GE, T, INTC and PFE all up.
The drug giant Merck (MRK) reported that its quarterly earnings jumped 8% to $0.99 cents per share, excluding certain charges. However, the company fell short of forecasts with estimates of $1.03 per share.
Procter & Gamble (PG) was the biggest loser on the Dow after the consumer staple company lowered its outlook for full-year earnings. The stock fell 4% after reporting earnings of $0.94 per share a penny above estimates. P&G now expects 2012 earnings per share to be in the range of of $3.63 to $3.74, down from a range of $3.85 to $4.08.
The dollar slipped against the euro, the Japanese yen and British pound.
Oil for June delivery was up 38 cents to $104.93 a barrel.
Gold futures for June delivery was up $4.30 to $1,664.80 an ounce.
The price on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury rose, pushing the yield down to 1.95%.
