The Dow closed up +113.90 (+0.87%) at 13,204.62.

Dow stock leaders were WMT (+2.77%), CVX, T, UTX, VZ and TRV. There were 6 losers which included XOM, MSFT, BA, DD, HD and PG.

Exxon Mobil (XOM) was the biggest drag on the Dow falling -0.90%, after the oil company reported a decline in profit. Wal-Mart (WMT) led gainers on the blue-chip index, rebounding +2.77% after falling 8% so far this week due to an alleged Mexican bribery scandal.

The S&P 500, Nasdaq and Russell 2000 all gained today.

Through Wednesday, nearly half of the companies in the S&P 500 have reported first-quarter results, and 76% of them have beat expectations.

The dollar fell against the euro, Japanese yen and British pound.

Oil for June delivery was up 43 cents to settle at $104.55 a barrel.

Gold futures for June delivery was up $18.20 to $1,660.50 an ounce.

The price on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury was up, pushing the yield down slightly to 1.95% from 1.98% late Wednesday.
