Micrososft (MSFT) was the big winner on the Dow 30, up +5.65% to close at 29.71. IBM, HPQ, INTC and TRV were the follow-on leaders.

The worst losing Dow components were HD, AXP, UTX, DIS and MMM.

Twelve of the Dow 30 were losers today.

IBM (IBM), delivered great earnings and raised this year’s guidance. The company accounts for a huge 11% of the Dow so its impressive 4.4% gain had an major effect on the index.

Microsoft (MSFT) jumped 5.7%, making a new 52-week high, beating analysts estimates.

I keep reading everywhere about tops and topping patterns. You know what happens when tops become the hot topic? The market keeps on rolling to higher highs than the market was expecting.
