Pre-market, futures are mixed on this final trading day of 2011, as investors bid farewell to an otherwise volatile year. Gainers this morning include SCHW, RHT, IP, NEM and FTR while losers include ICE, SHLD, ADBE, PFE and AVP. Light crude is down -0.43% at 99.22 and gold is up +1.58% at 1,565.30.
The Dow’s biggest winner of this year was McDonalds (MCD).
The Dow has done better than the S&P this year simply because it has fewer financial stocks. Of the 30 Dow components, only four are financial — Bank of America (BAC), JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Travelers (TRV) and American Express (AXP).
Friday looks to be a quiet day as many investors have already closed their books for the year.
