After the close…

We have 16 of the 30 Dow components closing higher with DJIA closing down -2.65 (-0.02%) at 12,291.35. The Nasdaq Composite, S&P 500 and Russell 2000 all managed to close higher.

After a 427-point gain last week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA is up 6.2% for the year, with three sessions remaining.

Intel (INTC) was the biggest DJIA gainer, garnering a +0.66% gain to close at 24.56. Other DJIA gainers included CSCO, T, CVX, BA, MCD,HD, TRV, PG, DD, IBM, MMM, XOM, JNJ, MSFT AND VZ.

The top 3 yielding Dow stocks are T (5.86%), VZ (5.00%) and MRK (4.45%). VZ and MRK are at or very near their 52 week highs.

The DJIA index, which had built a gain of 4.5% over the past four sessions, spent most of the session trading higher.

Dow top gainer, McDonald’s Corp. MCD +0.40%, the fast-food chain, was up 31% from the end of 2010.

Dow top loser, Bank of America Corp. BAC -0.55%, is down almost 59% for this nearly ended year.
