Cramer Highlights
- Cramer welcomes author and fellow CNBC TV host Donny Deutsch to the show to discuss his new book “The Big Idea.”
- A tribute to the entrepreneurial spirit, the book comes highly recommended by Cramer.
- Deutsch said the wealthiest people in the world make it (entrepreneurial spirit) themselves.
- Deutsch said his book highlights dozens of “everyday people” who followed their dreams and made them came true.
- In the Sell Block segment, Cramer revisits a basket of speculative tech stocks he recommended on Dec. 12, and said it’s time to sell all of the names.
- The basket included CIEN – Ciena, SWKS – Skyworks Solutions, TLAB – Tellabs and AMD – AMD, which as a group is collectively up an average of 22.5%.
- The stats: Ciena shares rose 42%, Skyworks is up 20%, Tellabs up 14% and AMD is up just under 13%.
- Cramer said this “field bet” worked due to the fact many of the tech names had been beaten down hard by tax-loss selling and forced hedge-fund selling during November and December and couldn’t possibly go any lower.
- Now though, Cramer said it would be foolish not to take the profits and run, or at least play with the house’s money going forward.
- The tech sector remains weak, and the downside risk for these names are mounting.
- Once investors know themselves and the types of stocks they should own, Cramer said the next step is to evaluate the companies they own.
- Rigorous homework is what leads to good judgement, he told viewers.
- Investors need to make sure the companies they own are viable, make money and don’t have a lot of debt.
- Companies with a lot of debt can’t pay the bills and get into trouble.
- When that happens, the bond bullies take over and leave shareholders in the dust.
- The same principles apply to big companies, always pay attention to a company’s debt and cashflow.
- Cramer said indebted companies, make bad stocks.
- The recent string of bank failures and mortgage meltdowns should drive this point home.
